Uninsured citizens in California’s Butte, Los Angeles and Ventura counties will be eligible for a no-cost replacement of medicines lost in the highly destructive California wildfires that have ravaged the populous US state over the previous month.
The no-cost replacements, which will be funded by the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Emergency Prescription Assistance Program (EPAP), will allow patients to obtain a 30 day supply of prescription medicines lost in the fires.
“EPAP provides vital assistance to people without insurance who rely upon certain prescription medicines and equipment to protect their health after disasters,” said HHS Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Dr Robert Kadlec, “I encourage citizens in impacted areas of California who qualify for this assistance to take advantage of it.”
Uninsured patients will also be able to replace medical equipment, such as canes and walkers that have been lost during the fires.
At the time of writing, 85 have lost their lives while more than 500 are unaccounted for. The fires have caused more than $2.975 billion in damage.
