The Pharmaceutical Marketing Society annual advertising awards on Friday were enjoyed in their traditional glittering style, and celebrated the industry's best ad campaigns of the last 12 months.
A well-groomed crowd of over 1,200 gathered at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London for the event, and were entertained by the show's compere, stand-up comedian Michael McIntyre.
Success for Langland and Woolley Pau
Langland was among the most successful agencies this year, scooping awards with three different campaigns. The Windsor-based agency won the Hospital Direct Mail award with its campaign for Bayer Schering's cancer treatment Nexavar, and also best Hospital Campaign for its series on Seroquel XL, AstraZeneca's antipsychotic treatment.
Langland was also highly commended on its Crestor campaign for AstraZeneca in the category of best GP Journal Advertisement.
Woolley Pau was celebrating awards for its work with Sanofi Pasteur MSD on its vaccines portfolio.
The humorous illustrated advertising campaign created for Sanofi Pasteur's travel vaccines scooped the award for best GP Campaign, and also won the award for best Patient Information Campaign.
Another Woolley Pau advert for Sanofi Pasteur's Flu Vaccine promotion was commended in the Patient Information Campaign category.
Finally, the agency also won the top award in the GP Direct Mail category for its work on Steifel's acne treatment Duac.
More winners
Other winners included Paling Walters, who won the best Journal Advertisement Campaign as well as the GP Journal Advertisement with its famed Xenical campaign.
It is the third consecutive year that the agency has won awards with its series for Roche's weight loss treatment.
Meanwhile, Brand X Communications walked away with the Geoff Brook award for Innovation for its Symbicort Smart Roadshows campaign.
Junction 11's Gout Awareness series for Ipsen also won a clutch of awards. The eye-catching campaign conveyed the pain of the disease by showing a cactus and dynamite in place of a patient's foot.
Notably, the campaign won plaudits from both its target audience – doctors – as well and from a panel of industry and agency peers. The campaign won best Hospital Journal Advertisement, best International Core Campaign, and the Target Audience Award for Hospital Journal Advertisement.
