Carvolix (formerly Affluent Medical), a commercial and clinical-stage biotechnology company developing AI-powered mini-robots and biomimetic implants, has completed the acquisition of Caranx Medical and Artedrone. The acquisition enabled Affluent Medical to form Carvolix, a new, integrated medtech company.
Carvolix aims to use innovative technology, including AI, to improve access to life-saving procedures. In particular, the company will focus on cardiac valve replacement and treatment for stroke. There is a significant unmet medical need in both these areas. Only 17% of the 1.7 million patients eligible annually for transcatheter aortic valve implantation receive the surgery, while only 5% of ischemic stroke patients undergo mechanical thrombectomy. Likewise, only 4% of the four million patients annually with severe mitral valve regurgitation receive surgery.
The acquisition of Caranx and Artedrone allows Carvolix to accelerate the development of its pipeline and drive further growth. The company expects to launch its first product, TAVIPILOT Software, in the US in 2026. The product has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Carvolix will retain its rights to direct commercialisation in Europe and establish partnerships with companies in the US, Middle East and Asia.
“We are bringing together three extremely innovative and synergistic medtech companies into one – with the goal of augmenting the cardiac catheterisation lab to treat far more patients suffering from valve dysfunction and brain stroke,” said Sebastien Ladet, CEO of Carvolix. “In addition, we will boost synergies in R&D and commercialisation between the three companies to enable the development and delivery of additional products, such as a robotically delivered mitral valve.”
