Santen joins inaugural Global Summit for Eye Health as partner

Santen Pharmaceutical has become a High Impact Partner for the inaugural Global Summit for Eye Health, joining governments, international organisations and healthcare leaders in a global initiative aimed at tackling avoidable vision impairment.
The summit, organised by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) in technical collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), will take place in Antigua and Barbuda on 2 November. Delegates are expected to launch the Global Eye Health Compact, a framework designed to accelerate action through measurable commitments from governments and organisations.
As a High Impact Partner, Santen will contribute to the development of the Global Eye Health Compact and announce its own commitments to improving eye health worldwide.
More than one billion people are estimated to be living with avoidable vision impairment globally, despite the availability of effective approaches to prevention, early diagnosis and treatment.
Rie Nakajima, Director of the Board and Chief Operating Officer of Santen Global, said: “No single organisation can solve the growing burden of vision impairment alone. By working alongside governments, healthcare professionals, patient organisations and global partners, we can help strengthen eye health systems, improve access to quality eye care, and deliver lasting benefits for people around the world.”
Santen said the partnership builds on its existing work with the IAPB to promote eye health policy, encourage earlier diagnosis and support initiatives addressing childhood myopia and other eye conditions.
Peter Holland, CEO of the IAPB, welcomed the company’s participation, saying collaboration across governments, healthcare providers and industry would be essential to expanding access to eye care and reducing avoidable sight loss.
The summit will bring together representatives from governments, international organisations, civil society and the private sector to agree commitments intended to strengthen global eye health over the coming years.
