A new business aimed at helping entrepreneurs and run by two former directors of Synovate Healthcare has launched in London.

PharmaGems is the brainchild of former Synovate chief executive Michael Spedding and ex-chief financial officer Peter Chopra.

Its business model takes some inspiration from the BBC TV programme Dragons’ Den, with the two ‘PharmaGems dragons’ inviting people with ideas to pitch to them.

Evaluating and advising on investment opportunities, funding start-ups and identifying new investment opportunities will be PharmaGems’ modus operandi.

The company will target individuals or teams launching a business or service, businesses seeking to enter new markets or develop new products, and mature firms looking to optimise value before a sale.

“As proven experts in this field, we are able to deliver a level of expertise that would normally be out of the reach of many businesses at this stage in their development”, said Chopra.

“The healthcare marketing services industry is changing, and the time for innovation and entrepreneurialism is now,” says Spedding.

“The ideas, talent and passion are out there – but so too are barriers to success,” he adds.

His contention is that large company structures often fail to reward value creation from within, while “glass ceilings” prevent small companies from further growth.

“With our business and financial track record in this industry, and our belief that entrepreneurs should reap the rewards of what they create, PharmaGems can help entrepreneurs at all stages to optimise value,” concludes Spedding.

Prior to Synovate, Chopra worked at Aegis Group, while Spedding was at Virgin, UBM & NOP.  The pair have experience in market research, corporate development and merger and acquistion deals.

Chopra also owns transaction services business Great Outcomes and Partner in Verve, which helps create customer advisory panels and online brand communities for clients.

PharmaGems will provide training and marketing and communications services in conjunction with partners.
