Home Secretary Theresa May opens Abbvie’s new UK offices

AbbVie today opened new UK offices, in a ceremony presided over by Theresa May, Home Secretary and MP for Maidenhead.
The company, which focuses on using its research and development expertise to discover, develop and rapidly deliver cutting-edge medicines for people living with serious, complex illnesses, employs more than 500 people in the local community.
AbbVie employees welcomed Theresa May to AbbVie House, where AbbVie’s UK GM Matt Regan thanked the Home Secretary for attending the opening
of the offices and discussed how the company has invested around £11million in clinical trials in the UK since 2012.
As part of a brief address, the Home Secretary discussed the importance of pharmaceutical research in the country and how it plays a vital role in bringing new medicines to people in the UK, but also around the world. She also recognised how the industry is key to providing highly-skilled jobs in the life-science sector.
“Companies such as AbbVie are helping to advance science in the UK and address some of the world’s most complex diseases. I am therefore pleased to support the opening of the company’s new UK offices as it strives to improve the country’s healthcare challenges and offers opportunities for high-skilled employment while maintaining its strong relationships with the local Maidenhead community, with which it undertakes several philanthropic and volunteer initiatives” says the Home Secretary.

Since last year, the number of our employees has grown by 30%; that fact, along with the opening of our new offices, demonstrate our continued commitment to the Maidenhead area.
