Laurence Debroux, chief strategic officer at Sanofi-Aventis, is to leave the company at the end of June.

The company said she was leaving “to pursue another professional challenge” and a successor would be announced shortly.

Sanofi’s chief executive Chris Viehbacher said: “I would like to sincerely express my gratitude to Laurence for her contributions to the development of Sanofi-Aventis since 1996, first in finance and then in the business development area.

“Thanks to her dynamic and strategic sharpness, Laurence was able to combine leadership and passion in a key role that allowed Sanofi-Aventis to realise significant acquisitions over the last 18 months in order to become a global diversified healthcare leader focused on patients’ need.”

She joined Sanofi as corporate treasurer in 1996, and was appointed head of financing/treasury in 1997.

From 2000 to 2004, she served as head of strategic planning, before becoming deputy chief financial officer, and in March 2007 she was appointed senior vice president, chief financial officer and became a member of the executive committee in December 2008.

She was appointed to her current position of senior VP, chief strategic officer and member of the executive committee in February 2009.
