The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) has named Dr Virginia Acha as its new executive director of Research Medical and Innovation.
Acha replaces Dr Bina Rawal and will take up the position at the beginning of March, reporting directly to the body’s chief executive Stephen Whitehead.
Acha currently works for Amgen as a director of its regulatory and R&D policy for the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.

Previously she spent nearly five years at Pfizer working on policy development and engagement in a number of domains, including science, innovation and access and choice in healthcare.
Welcoming Acha’s appointment Whitehead says: “Ginny’s experience and background will complement that of our members’ to champion science, discovery, research and development and enable it to thrive in the UK. I am really looking forward to working with her.”
Acha adds: “These are exciting times in the science, development and delivery of medicines, and so it is a great privilege to be joining the ABPI now to help deliver our industry’s views and aspirations for the future of healthcare.”
