The medical charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK Trustees have announced the appointment of David Barker as the new chief executive officer.
Taking up his new role on 18 February, Barker will bring a wealth of expertise to the role, having been director of Communications at Breakthrough Breast Cancer and previously head of The British Heart Foundation Marketing and Communications team.
Speaking about his appointment, Barker says: “Crohn’s and Colitis UK is a fabulous charity with a rich heritage of success. I’m really looking forward to working with the Board of Trustees, staff and the army of members, volunteers and supporters to help ake the organisation to the next level. We have strong foundations on which to build but there is still a significant job still to do if we are to maximise the impact of the work of the charity and reach more people”.
Barker also brings with him a strong background in the effective use of digital and is a regular speaker on the subject at numerous conferences and seminars in the UK.
Barker takes up the chief executive reins from Richard Driscoll, who steered the charity for over 21 years from being a small organisation founded in 1979 to becoming the UK’s leading IBD charity.
