Walmart has joined the MediLedger network – a network of pharma firms who use a permissioned blockchain to manage the distribution of medical supplies.
The retail giant, who already use IBM’s blockchain network FoodTrust, has now joined the permissioned blockchain network MediLedger, whose members include Genentech, Pfizer and Gilead.
Walmart will use the MediLedger blockchain to improve their business selling healthcare products and medical supplies, a section of their business which accounted for $35 billion in revenue in the last financial year.
Based on Ethereum the MediLedger blockchain keeps an unchangeable record of transactions on a permissioned ledger.
MediLedger itself has set the bar high as it aims to create “an industry-wide network owned by the industry itself, connecting you to all your suppliers and customers.” The project was started in 2017.
