Bend Bioscience adds commercial spray drying facility to Georgia site

Bend Bioscience has announced the addition of a commercial-scale spray dryer and a Gerteis dry granulation system at its facility in Gainesville, Georgia, US. The installation process is due to begin immediately.

This addition seeks to support the development of Bend Bioscience’s services, specifically to provide technologically advanced absorption- and bioavailability-enhancement products, and clinical and commercial scale oral dose forms.

The spray suite will feature a GEA PSD-4, a custom-designed, pharma-grade spray dryer. It will also include secondary vacuum drying systems, multiple tank sizes, a dual-stage condenser, and the ability to process highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

Founded in 2021 and based in Oregon, US, Bend Bioscience is a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO). It provides services to pharma and biotech companies for drug development and manufacturing, focusing on particle engineering and bioavailability enhancement.

Owen Murray, chief executive officer of Bend Bioscience, commented: “These latest additions demonstrate our commitment to providing strong, innovative and comprehensive solutions.”

He added: “It allows us to meet the demands of significant near-term growth through our network of capabilities and expertise in enhancing pharmacokinetics, particle engineering and modified release forms.”
