This week nasal sprays based on illegal recreational drugs feature prominently, as the FDA has moved to approve Lannett Company’s Numbrino (cocaine hydrochloride) nasal solution for the introduction of local anaesthesia of the mucous membranes for diagnostic procedures and surgeries. This is contrary to NICE in the UK which rejected Janssen’s Spravato (esketamine) nasal spray, derived from the party drug ketamine, for use in England and Wales for treatment-resistant depression.
