Independent public relations and communications agency Tonic has been acquired by the Huntsworth group.
The Huntsworth group has grown rapidly over the last few years, helped by a number of acquisitions in healthcare communications.
Now Tonic joins the group, and will become the global brand for all of Huntsworth’s PR services.
Tonic’s clients include Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline and Roche, and it currently works with seven of the 10 largest healthcare companies on a global and domestic basis (US and UK).
The company also operates in the lifestyle sector, where it counts Nestle, Heinz, Welch’s, Reckitt Benckiser, P&G and Beiersdorf among its leading nutrition and household product clients.
Tonic has its headquarters in London, offices in the US and currently ranks within PR Week’s top 10 healthcare agencies. Tonic was named in the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 fastest growing companies in the UK and has previously been rated as the World’s Fastest Growing Agency, by the Holmes Report.
Tonic will continue to be managed by Scott A. Clark, Group chief executive and Oliver Parsons, group managing director, both of whom are Tonic founders. Moira Gitsham, another of the founding trio, will also continue to serve as a Director. Neil Flash will take on a new and expanded role as MD of Tonic London. The Tonic Board reports directly to David Rowley, group chief executive of Huntsworth Health.
“Today’s announcement will propel the Tonic brand to an entirely new level and we couldn’t be more delighted about becoming part of Huntsworth, a group that has grown from strength to strength,” said Clark.
“This fulfils our strategy to offer compelling new opportunities for our team and clients, allowing us to retain our vision, culture and aspirations while also benefiting from the scope and energy of an emerging global player in the communications industry. In essence, it’s a tonic for Tonic, infusing us with an invigorated offering through new world class services in areas such as digital, branding and research.”
Commenting on the move David Rowley said: “Huntsworth Health has been tracking the growth of Tonic for some time, and are very pleased that they have decided to join our group.
“Scott and Oliver will take a leadership role in driving our global aspirations to become a world class player in the healthcare public relations arena, and together with our current European and US practices will significantly increase our reach and expertise.”
