The past week has seen India’s highest number of COVID-19 deaths, with 4,205 fatalities in a single day. There has also been lots of positive COVID-19 vaccine news; Canada became the first country to authorize the Pfizer vaccine in children aged 12-15, the FDA also approved the vaccine in children, and the Moderna booster shots appear to increase immunity.

India yesterday reported the country’s highest COVID-19 death total for a single day, with 4,205 fatalities officially confirmed.

2. FDA authorizes use of Pfizer vaccine for children aged 12-15– Published 11/05/21

 The FDA announced it has expanded the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in children aged 12-15 yesterday.

3. COVID-19: Moderna booster shots appear to increase immunity– Published – 06/05/21

Moderna’s mRNA booster jabs for people already vaccinated against COVID-19 have shown positive initial data in a Phase II study assessing the volume of antibody responses against the virus.

4. Biomarker linked to male hair loss found to determine COVID-19 severity– Published 07/05/21

 Findings presented at the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Spring Symposium suggest that men with genetic characteristics (phenotypes) sensitive to the male sex hormone androgen, are more likely to experience severe COVID-19 disease.

5. Canada first country to authorise Pfizer vaccine in children aged 12-15– Published 06/05/21

Canada has become the first country to authorise the use of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children aged between 12 and 15.
