NanoSomiX and Beckman Coulter Diagnostics have announced plans to collaborate on the development of next-generation immunoassays for neurodegenerative diseases using blood-based extracellular vesicle (EV) biomarkers.

The collaboration will explore the application of NanoSomiX’s proprietary platform, which analyses extracellular vesicles derived from specific brain cell populations, including neurons and glial cells, to detect low-abundance brain biomarkers from blood samples.

The companies said the approach could help address longstanding challenges associated with measuring brain-specific biomarkers through minimally invasive blood tests, supporting both neurological research and future clinical applications.

NanoSomiX has developed EV-based immunoassays designed to measure biomarkers originating from neurons and other brain cells, with applications in studying disease mechanisms, progression and therapeutic response across a range of neurodegenerative conditions. The platform is compatible with high-throughput testing systems, supporting its potential translation into automated laboratory workflows.

Dr Dennis Van Epps, Vice President of Scientific Affairs at NanoSomiX, said: “We are excited to work with Beckman Coulter Diagnostics to help translate this scientific foundation toward scalable, automated immunoassay solutions for both research and clinical settings.”

NanoSomiX said it is already collaborating with academic and commercial partners to advance biomarker discovery and validation using neuron-, astrocyte- and oligodendrocyte-derived extracellular vesicles across a broad range of neurological diseases.
