Eli Lilly and Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana, US, have announced a new scholarship programme, known as Lilly Scholars @ Ivy Tech, which aims to support first generation students, and students who faced socioeconomic barriers, in pursuing credentials in quality, pharmaceutical manufacturing or similar industries.

This programme is expected to help around 1,000 Ivy Tech students, or Lilly Scholars, with financial assistance as well as experiential learning opportunities including summer programmes and work study programmes. It is also planned for the partnership to build the Lilly Smart Manufacturing Lab, where customised education and training for Lilly Scholars will take place. This facility will provide Ivy Tech with manufacturing certification and two-year manufacturing degree options.

Dr Sue Ellspermann, president of Ivy Tech Community College, commented: “Today, we are taking our partnership with Lilly to the next level with the creation of Lilly Scholars @ Ivy Tech. Lilly Scholars provides high school and adult students with an exceptional employer partner in Lilly and put their education to work in high-wage, high-demand careers that contribute to the growth and prosperity of our state.”

Edgardo Hernandez, executive vice president and president, Lilly Manufacturing Operations, added: “Today’s announcements demonstrate the strong collaboration between industry, academia and government in Indiana. Through our new academic commitment, we’re looking to grow life sciences education in the stat and foster a diverse pipeline of local talent to fill the new jobs created through our recent investments.”
