Donald and Melania Trump test positive for COVID-19

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have both tested positive for COVID-19.
Trump tweeted: “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”
Melania also put out in a statement in a tweet, writing: “As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together.”
It is speculated that the couple were infected from Hope Hicks, a senior aide to the President, who travelled on Air Force One with the President and the First Lady to the Presidential debate in Ohio. It was announced she tested positive for the virus hours before it was confirmed the Trumps also had the virus.
President Trump’s Physician, Sean P Conley also released a statement on the couple’s recent positive test. He said that both are healthy at this time and plan to remain in the White House while they recover. He also stated the medical team will be vigilant and the President and the First Lady will receive the greatest care.
He concluded: “Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments.”
Despite the relative optimism from the President and his physician, there is concern for his health. Trump himself falls into the highest risk category for the virus, as he is both 74 years old and obese at 234 pounds.
Trump follows a list of other world leaders who have also contracted the virus. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson contracted the virus in March, and his condition became serious as he was treated in an intensive care unit. Brazillian President Jair Bolsonaro also tested positive in July. America, the UK and Brazil are among the worst hit countries in the world in terms of cases and fatalities, and all three leaders have been criticised for not taking the virus seriously enough in its initial stages.
