Bio-Techne has opened a new facility in Bristol manufacturing Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-grade small molecules for cell therapy developers.

The 10,000-square-foot facility includes five ISO-8 multifunctional cleanrooms and two ISO-7 cleanrooms for GMP small-molecule manufacturing and product handling. It is fully operational and is already manufacturing materials for customers developing cell therapies.

The site expands Bio-Techne’s existing GMP manufacturing capabilities in the US and adds small-molecule production to its portfolio of GMP proteins, cell media, analytical solutions and process development services.

The company said the investment was intended to support cell therapy developers as they move programmes from early development towards clinical and commercial manufacturing, with manufacturing consistency and scalability becoming increasingly important as therapies progress.

“The Bristol expansion demonstrates Bio-Techne’s commitment to providing customers with the GMP materials, manufacturing expertise, and supply chain reliability needed to accelerate development,” said Kim Kelderman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bio-Techne.

The Bristol operation forms part of Bio-Techne’s wider manufacturing network, which includes recombinant protein manufacturing in Minneapolis and GMP capabilities in St Paul, Minnesota. The company also has a strategic relationship with Wilson Wolf Corporation, whose products include the G-Rex cell culture platform.

Will Geist, President of Bio-Techne’s Protein Sciences Segment, said the new facility would add manufacturing capacity while supporting customers through development and commercial supply.

The Bristol facility is designed to manufacture GMP-grade small molecules for cell therapy applications, with the company positioning the site as part of its broader offering to developers requiring materials for advanced therapy manufacturing.
