Sparkling celebrations at PM Awards’ silver jubilee

The PM Society marked the 25th anniversary of its annual advertising awards with a ceremony that glittered almost as much as the jacket of host Graham Norton.
The prime time comedian raised a laugh when he predicted guests would later ‘‘emerge blinking into the afternoon like Chilean miners in cocktail dresses.”
He then proceeded to lead the assembled crowd of more than 1,200 pharma marketers and communications agency personnel through a quiz on general knowledge and the pharma industry, that saw Pharmafocus reporter Ben Adams among the eventual handful of winners.
Now in their 18th year at the Grosvenor Hotel in London, the awards started life as the PM Club with an audience of just 200 gathering at the Talk of London. They’ve since hosted over 25,000 attendees in their first quarter century.
Langland leads the winners
2010’s big winner was Windsor-based agency Langland, picking up awards for clients including Bayer Healthcare, Gilead, Napp Pharmaceuticals and Orion.
Also performing well were Woolley Pau, Halesway and Swordfish Advertising, each picking up a brace of awards apiece. But it was Langland’s night, and in total the agency took seven out of the 18 awards, equalling their haul last year and the record that they set for the most categories won by a single agency at the PM Awards.
Their standout performance was in the Craft Award for GP Journal Ad category, where the agency held five out of the six nominations, eventually taking home two Highly Commended awards in addition to their awarded first place trophy.
Digital marketing gained further ground and recognition at this year’s awards. Now in its second year, the Digital Pioneer Award went to Gary Monk for his work on Janssen’s Living With ADHD campaign. The Craft Award for Digital Media went to Langland’s augmented reality campaign for Genzyme’s Renvela.
Finally, the Geoff Brook Award, which recognises innovation in marketing, went to an iPad-specific e-detail.
Produced by Manchester agency Creative Lynx, the AstraZeneca CLM [Closed Loop Marketing] Vision programme beat competition from Amgen’s ITP Village (produced by Brand(x) Communications) and Janssen’s Psoriasis 360 app (Creative Lynx).
There will be further coverage of the awards in the March issue of Pharmafocus.
