Professor Sir Malcolm Grant has been re-appointed as Chair of NHS England from 31 October 2015 for a further three years.
Sir Malcolm originally took up the post in 2011 as founding chairman of the NHS Commissioning Board, which became NHS England after health service reorganisation in 2013.
The current deputy chair, Ed Smith, is stepping down following his appointment as the joint chair of Monitor and chair-designate of the NHS Trust Development Authority (TDA).
On Sir Malcolm’s reappointment, Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt says: “Sir Malcolm’s capability and expertise have been invaluable over the past four years as the vision of strategic commissioning has become a reality.
“I look forward to continuing to work with him as we equip the NHS to face the challenges of the future – by building the safest, most patient-centred and most efficient healthcare system in the world.”
