Sanofi name current CMO Dr Ameet Nathwani as new Chief Digital Officer

French firm Sanofi has appointed pharma veteran Dr Ameet Nathwani to the position of Chief Digital Officer.

In his new role, which he will take on in addition to his current responsibilities as Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Nathwani will be responsible for enhancing Sanofi’s digital strategy as the company integrates digital technologies and medical science in an effort to improve patient outcomes.

Dr Nathwani will be tasked with scaling up Sanofi’s ongoing portfolio of digital initiatives by developing broad external partnerships, building out internal infrastructures and exploring new business opportunities for Sanofi in the digital space.

“Over the last two years, we have made fast progress in creating an innovative portfolio of digital initiatives and novel partnerships,” said Olivier Brandicourt, Chief Executive Officer at Sanofi. “With Ameet’s wide experience in digital health and analytics, we will be able to further advance our capabilities to re-invent not only the way we discover and develop medicines but the types of future products we may offer to patients around the world.”

Born in Uganda, Dr Nathwani was educated in the UK. The pharma veteran qualified as a medical doctor in London in 1987 and acquired his specialisation in cardiology after working at a number of University Hospitals in London.

Dr Nathwani later earned a diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine and an executive Master’s in Business Administration. The medical doctor joined GlaxoSmithKline in 1995 and later Novartis in 2004 before joining Sanof as the company’s Chief Medical Officer in May 2016.
