The Dublin headquartered multinational, Allergan has appointed Pfizer CMO Charles Hugh-Jones as their new Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.

Hugh-Jones, a board certified physician, will begin his new role in late August during which period he will be based at Allergan’s administrative headquarters in Madison, New Jersey. The move comes just 16 months after the established cancer doctor joined Pfizer’s oncology arm.

Hugh-Jones, a graduate from the University of London, began his career in the NHS for whom he worked for more than six years. In the following half a decade he took on a number of increasingly senior roles within Schering AG which was later bought by Bayer. During this period he made the move to New Jersey at which point he took on roles at Enzon Pharmaceuticals and then Sanofi.

While his Pfizer role took the medical chief to the Greater New York area, his new role will place him back in New Jersey, a location in which he had worked for more than 14 years. While there he’ll report to Executive Vice President and Chief Research and Development Officer, David Nicholson.

Nicholson commented in saying that: “Allergan is in a position to launch a number of important new products over the next couple of years. Charles will play a critical role in supporting the safe, effective and proper use of these innovative treatments among patients and their physicians.”
