New ABPI executive director appointed

The UK pharma trade body the ABPI has appointed Richard Corbett as its new executive director of commercial. Corbett will join the ABPI at the end of July.
Commenting on his appointment, Corbett says: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the ABPI. The UK is at the forefront of discovery and innovation and I welcome the chance to join at such an exciting time for the life sciences industry.”
Corbett was previously chief economist and director of strategy at the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), where he was responsible for building trusted partnerships with international economic institutions.
Before this Corbett spent six years working at Pfizer, where he was a senior director and head of international affairs. He has extensive experience of working in government, having previously held a number of roles as part of the UK government’s economic service as well as at the European Commission.
In his new role Corbett will be responsible for heading the ABPI’s commercial strategy and leading the UK commercial team. His main focus will be on pricing, the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (PPRS), health technology and value assessment, as well as market access in the UK. He will be working closely with the NHS on all aspects of medicines use, procurement and distribution and supply.
Alison Clough, the ABPI’s acting chief executive, says: “With his wealth of knowledge and expertise, Richard will be very well placed to direct the ABPI’s commercial strategy and to lead the UK commercial team. His experience in both government and the pharmaceutical industry will prove invaluable.”
