MRC Technology hires senior head from Shire

UK medical research charity MRC Technology has appointed Dr Edward Bliss to the new role of general counsel and company secretary.

Bliss joins the company in March from Shire Pharmaceuticals where he is currently its legal director. Prior to that he was the general counsel and company secretary at Ark Therapeutics Group.

He joined Ark from private practice with the international life sciences law firm Covington and Burling LLP. A solicitor, Bliss also holds a PhD in neuroscience and his responsibilities at MRCT will include licensing, governance, compliance, and in-house legal affairs.

Dave Tapolczay who is the chief executive at MRC Technology, says: “Ed will be a great asset and we look forward to him joining. Licensing is a key part of our mission to drive scientific research to benefit patients. We have already negotiated over 400 commercial licences and Ed will continue to build on this success.”

Bliss adds: “It is a tremendous privilege to be joining MRC Technology and I look forward to working with Dave Tapolczay and his team in their important goal of progressing the further development of innovative medical research.”
