Bristol Myers Squibb has announced that Dr Christopher Boerner will take over from Murdo Gordon as executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, effective immediately. In joining the company’s Leadership Team, Boerner will succeed Gordon who left Bristol Myers Squibb in August of this year to pursue another opportunity.
Boerner will lead commercial strategy and execution across all geographies while reporting to Dr Giovanni Caforio, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Boerner brings a wealth of experience to the role as he comes from his previous position as head of international markets at Bristol Myers Squibb where he was responsible for commercial activities in all ex-US markets.
“Chris brings a deep knowledge of specialty care markets, a clear focus on innovation, and a proven track record of successful execution. Since joining BMS, he has successfully led our commercial organization across the U.S. and international markets,” said Caforio. “I am confident he will build upon the company’s solid foundation and continue to strengthen our ability to bring medicines to patients faster.”
Boerner joined Bristol Myers Squibb in February 2015 as head of the US commercial organisation. However prior to joining the company he served as the Executive Vice President of Commercial for Seattle Genetics. Boerner had also previously led the marketing team at Dendreon Corporation and served in a variety of commercial roles at Genentech.
“I’m very excited to lead such a talented and diverse commercial team globally,” said Boerner. “Along with my commercial colleagues, I look forward to continuing to help BMS deliver on our mission of bringing transformational medicines to patients.”
Having initially graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and History from Washington University in St Louis, Boerner later achieved an M.A and PhD in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
