AZ takes manufacturing head from Merck

Pam Cheng has joined AstraZeneca from Merck to be its executive vice president of operations and IT.

Cheng succeeds David Smith who is retiring after nearly 10 years with the firm, and will be responsible for manufacturing operations and supply chain, procurement and information technology globally. 

She joins AZ from Merck where she has much experience in pharmaceuticals manufacturing and supply chain control – holding titles such as director of global planning and capacity management, and as a head of global supply chain management and logistics.

Most recently Cheng was chief operating officer and then president of Merck China.

Pascal Soriot who is the US firm’s chief executive and whom Cheng will be reporting into, says: “I am delighted to welcome Pam to AstraZeneca at a very exciting time for our business. Pam will be able to bring to bear her wealth of experience in manufacturing and supply chain management, as well as her experience in emerging markets, particularly China, a key priority for our company.”
