Puretech Health co-founder and board member Dr Robert Langer wins global engineering prize

Dr Robert Langer, the co-founder of PureTech Health, has won the Queen Elizabeth prize for engineering.

The award is in recognition of his revolutionary advances and leadership in engineering at the interface with chemistry and medicine. 

The global Queen Elizabeth Prize is the world’s biggest engineering accolade, and celebrates the engineers responsible for a ground-breaking innovation that has been of global benefit to humanity. In this case, the Queen Elizabeth Prize committee stated that “hundreds of millions of people a year across the world benefit from the technologies that rest on the work of Robert Langer.”  

Dr Langer is also a board member of PureTech, and one of 13 institute professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the highest honour that can be awarded to a faculty member. His research laboratory is the largest academic biomedical engineering lab in the world, with over 100 researchers.

He has won an array of prizes and awards, including the Charles Stark Draper prize (2002), the 2008 Millennium prize, the 2013 Wolf prize, and the 2014 Kyoto prize. He is one of only four living individuals to have received both the United States National medal of science and the United States National medal of technology and innovation.
