The chairman of the Iranian Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Mehdi Pirsalehi, has said that Iran is ready to export medicines and medical equipment to Venezuela.
Building on a previous agreement between the two countries from early last year, the statement signals a readiness for greater cooperation between Venezuela and Iran.
The medical exports will be undertaken within the framework of the previously signed agreement.
The news comes as Mostafa Ghanei, Chairman of the Biotechnology Development Council announced that Iran now exports drugs to 17 countries.
“No one could imagine that a country which used to be a major importer of biopharmaceuticals is now an exporter of them,” he said.
Meanwhile Danish firm Novo Nordisk is set to continue production in Iran through the E3 trade vehicle INSTEX established in January 2019. Headquartered in Paris, the special-purpose vehicle (SPV) was established by Germany, France and Britain in order to facilitate non-dollar trade with Iran in the face of US sanctions.
