Windsor-based advertising agency Langland has won three trophies at the prestigious Global Awards for healthcare communications.
Two of these were for the agency’s ‘Get Real, Get a Prescription’ campaign for Pfizer, which won in the Best Film/Video and Special Effects categories.
The campaign contained a controversial cinema ad – which was also recently broadcast late at night on UK television – in which a man coughs up a dead rat.
The striking image was designed to make the point that rat poision could be cut into medicines bought online.
Langland’s Kid K for Bayer HealthCare also triumphed as Best Integrated Campaign, a category in which the agency was also nominated for its rat work.
Kid K is a cartoon character aimed at children with haemophilia, representing all the things that young sufferers can – rather than cannot – do.
This trio of wins by Langland, from six nominations, at the awards event in Sydney is the highest number by any entrant this year.
Entries to the Globals, which is organised by the New York Festivals group, were received from 96 agencies in 17 countries.
Several more UK firms also won awards, including Ogilvy Healthworld Advertising in London, which got the Professional: Film/Video (Scientific Films) gong for its work with Stryker Orthopaedics.
Pan Advertising won in two Professional categories: Detail/Sales Aid/ E-Detailing and Sales Training, while Random42 Medical Animation also snared a brace in Professional: Website/Banner/ Advergame and Animation Computer.
Saatchi & Saatchi Healthcare received the award for Professional: Sales Training.
Other Globals winners included McCann Erickson for one of Bristol-Myers Squibb’s video films by patients.
‘BMS Prevail Lynn Redgrave Web Film’ won a Grand Global for Communication to the Consumer/Patient.
Meanwhile, as part of a separate scheme to recognise entrepreneurs, Langland co-founder Joanna Chin is one of the finalists for the NatWest everywoman Athena Award.
The annual award is given to the businesswoman between the ages of 36 and 49 considered by the judges to be the most inspiring entrepreneur in the UK. Joanna is one of three finalists for this year’s award.
In announcing the shortlist, the judges highlighted the hard work, passion, determination and refusal to give up that each finalist has shown in making their business a success.
The winner will be announced on 2 December at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
