For its fifth annual Europe conference, FlyPharma chose Copenhagen as its host city to address the latest supply chain challenges and industry best practices, putting together a global audience of (bio)pharma and logistics professionals. The two-day conference (22-23 October 2019) aimed to discuss the collaboration and growth within Scandinavia, with a special focus on women in pharmaceutical logistics and an exploration of the industry’s digitalisation and innovation.

This year, SAS Cargo kindly stepped up to be FlyPharma Europe’s Host Sponsor, being an excellent match for FlyPharma as a growing industry force in pharmaceutical product transportation. FlyPharma had the pleasure of having its evening networking event at the end of Day 1 sponsored by DSV, trusted supply chain solutions providers to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, and its networking breaks sponsored by GEFCO – world leader in complex supply chain solutions.

FlyPharma welcomed over 150 advocates of the pharmaceutical logistics industry, including speakers who shared their expertise on innovative digital technologies, how to master the supply chain, and how to spot the opportunities within the sector and address its challenges. The conference was animated by joint presentations, various case studies and panel discussions, during which attendees were invited to interact, comment with their own views and were encouraged to ask questions. Being lively and entertaining, those sessions seemed to be considerably appreciated by the audience who could participate and be involved in the conversations.

FlyPharma Europe 2019 decided to focus on the Nordics and let some of the region’s specialists share advice regarding business opportunities in Greater Copenhagen and explain how it is involved in the pharmaceutical industry. For instance, the conference welcomed Medicon Valley Alliance’s Chief Executive Officer, Petter Hartman, who explained to the attendees why the organization is ‘The leading life science cluster of the Nordics’, giving details on Medicon Valley Alliance’s ecosystem key drivers and offering an overview of the major investments and state-of-the-art research infrastructure in the region.

On Day 2 of the conference, attendees were offered the opportunity to attend a site tour of Copenhagen Airport to take a closer look at the airport’s pharmaceutical cargo facilities and to discover first-hand how Copenhagen Airport and its operators provide high-quality cargo handling for their pharma customers. Copenhagen Airport Cargo Managers shared their knowledge of the airport facilities and entertained participants with some site anecdotes for two and a half hours. The tour also involved visiting World Flight Services’ and Spirit Air Cargo Handling’s facilities to give participants a better understanding of the term ‘temperature controlled’ when it comes to pharmaceutical storage.

FlyPharma Europe 2019’s Copenhagen location was an opportunity to tackle brand new topics and challenges faced in the Nordics with specialists from key companies of the industry, willing to inform the audience with well-structured presentations and who were happy to answer any questions asked.

FlyPharma Europe will return for its sixth year in 2020 – date and location to be confirmed soon. FlyPharma Asia also returns for its second year in 2020, with full details to be revealed soon.
