Shire to close Hampshire base and relocate jobs, say reports

Shire is set to cease operations at its site in Basingstoke, Hampshire, by the end of next year and relocate to London and Dublin.
According to the BBC, a consultation with employees is set to finish at the end of July, when more details will be revealed about the propose closure. Currently, the site at Hampshire International Business Park employs 270 people.
Shire started work at the Basingstoke site around 30 years ago. The company have indicated that it hopes to retain the “majority” of existing roles.
Sebastian Stachowiak, UK and Ireland general manager at Shire, says: “We appreciate the continued commitment and support of our employees based here, and of our local community partners. However, we believe the time is right to bring us closer to our customer base and our key partners within larger life science communities, as we move towards our next chapter of growth.”
The company recently announced a new $400 million investment in its biologics plant in Co. Meath, just outside Dublin in Ireland.
