Sandoz has entered into a ten-year virtual Power Purchase Agreement with Elawan Energy for the development of new solar projects in Valladolid, Castilla y León, Spain. The projects are expected to supply nearly 90% of the electricity demand for the company’s European operations.

Europe hosts the majority of Sandoz sites, and the agreement forms part of its wider decarbonisation strategy. The company said the partnership represents a step towards reducing its environmental impact and increasing renewable energy use across its operations.

“At Sandoz, environmental sustainability is a core part of how we operate – reflecting our responsibility to both the planet and our people,” said Glenn Gerecke, chief manufacturing and supply officer. “Our collaboration with Elawan Energy to develop this new solar project in Spain marks a concrete step toward decarbonising our operations. By covering nearly 90% of electricity demand for our current European operations, we will reduce our environmental footprint and advance our commitment to a more sustainable future.”

The initiative complements other renewable energy agreements introduced across multiple Sandoz sites worldwide. In 2024, the company submitted a Commitment Letter to the Science Based Targets initiative, confirming its intention to set science-based carbon reduction goals. Sandoz has pledged to submit its plan for validation by the end of January 2026.
