The past week has seen plenty of COVID-19 news continue to roll in: The European Commission has sued AstraZeneca over its vaccine supplies, Bharat Biotech’s jab has shown 100% efficacy in a new trial, and an Antivirals Taskforce has been set up in the UK to find the most promising antiviral medicines.

1. European Commission sues AstraZeneca over COVID-19 jab supplies – Published 27/04/2021

The European Commission (EC) announced yesterday that it was suing AstraZeneca for failing to respect its contract to supply COVID-19 vaccines to EU countries.

2. Jubilant’s oral remdesivir formulation shows positive results in human trial – Published 22/04/21

Jubilant Pharma has announced the successful completion of studies in human volunteers for their oral formulation of remdesivir – an FDA-approved treatment for COVID-19.

3. Bharat Biotech jab shows 100% efficacy against severe COVID-19 – Published 22/04/21

Indian biopharma company, Bharat Biotech, has reported interim analysis results from the Phase III trial of its COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, showed 100% efficacy against severe SARS-CoV-2 infection, with an overall efficacy of 78%.

4. J&J COVID-19 vaccine to resume Europe rollout – Published – 21/04/21

The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will continue its rollout in Europe, following a review from the EMA.

5. UK Government launches COVID-19 Antivirals Taskforce – Published 21/04/21

A new Antivirals Taskforce has been launched by the government to identify treatments for UK patients who have been exposed to COVID-19, searching for the most promising novel antiviral medicines that can be taken at home, and supporting their development through clinical trials.
