The past week has seen plenty of positive COVID-19 news; the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine was deemed safe and effective by the EMA before showing very high efficacy in its American trial, the first-known baby to have COVID-19 antibodies has been born, and RDIF and Stelis Biopharma have committed to supply 200 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine.
1. Daiichi Sankyo begins trial for mRNA COVID-19 vaccine in Japan – Published 22/03/2021
Daiichi Sankyo, a global pharmaceutical company that provides services in 20 countries worldwide, has announced the first vaccinations as part of Phase I/II clinical trials in Japan for its mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, DS-5670.
2. AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine achieves safety and efficacy results in US – Published 22/03/21
Results from the US trial of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine (AZD1222) show it is 79% effective at stopping symptomatic COVID-19 disease and 100% effective at preventing people from falling seriously ill, it was announced today.
3. RDIF & Stelis Biopharma to supply 200 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine – Published 19/03/21
The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Stelis Biopharma have today announced a partnership which aims to produce and supply a minimum of 200 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine globally.
4. AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine deemed “safe and effective” by EMA – Published – 19/03/21
AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine has been cleared for continued use by the EMA following an investigation into the reports of 37 thromboembolic events across Europe.
5. Florida woman gives birth to first-known baby born with COVID-19 antibodies – Published 18/03/21
A woman from Florida has given birth to the first-known baby born with COVID-19 antibodies, according to findings recently published by US paediatricians, Dr Paul Gilbert and Dr Chad Rudnick.
