The past week has seen mostly positive COVID-19 vaccine developments; Pfizer has confirmed its jab is effective against both the UK and South Africa virus variants, Novavax’s candidate showed almost 90% efficacy in its Phase III trial, and Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot vaccine has been found to be 85% effective.
1. Valneva begins production of its COVID-19 vaccine – Published 26/01/2021
Valneva, a specialty vaccine company focused on the prevention of infectious diseases with significant unmet medical needs, has commenced production of its inactivated, adjuvanted COVID-19 vaccine candidate alongside ongoing clinical studies.
2. Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine effective against South Africa variant, companies say – Published – 28/01/21
Pfizer and BioNTech have said that their COVID-19 vaccine is effective in protecting against the variant of the virus found in South Africa.
3. Novavax COVID-19 vaccine shows almost 90% efficacy in Phase III trial – Published 29/01/21
Novavax has announced that its COVID-19 vaccine candidate, NVX-CoV2373, demonstrated an efficacy of 89.3% in its UK Phase III trial.
4. AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine not for over 65s, German health body says – Published on 29/01/21
Germany’s main public health body has recommended that AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine is only administered to those aged between 18 and 64 years.
5. Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot COVID-19 vaccine 85% effective – Published 01/02/21
Johnson & Johnson has announced that its COVID-19 vaccine candidate is 85% effective in preventing serious symptoms of the disease, after interim analysis of Phase III of its trial.
