Biopharma services provider Parexel International Corporation is beefing up its global capacity and adding more secondary packaging and labelling services to its growing portfolio.

The expansion of its clinical logistics services includes a new distribution centre in Singapore on top of Parexel’s recent expansion of its facility at Billerica, Massachusetts.

“As clinical trials increase in size and complexity, clients are challenged to develop and implement strategies that create consistent sourcing, manufacturing, storage and distribution processes along the supply chain,” says Mark Goldberg, Parexel’s chief operating officer.

The company’s existing infrastructure takes in the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, a total of 76 locations in 50 countries with a workforce consisting of 15,100 employees worldwide.

“Our investments in these important distribution centres and depots are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to simplify the clinical trial journey for biopharmaceutical clients by supporting their growing global supply and logistics needs,” Goldberg adds.

The company aims to co-ordinate clinical trial supplies, central lab services and ancillary supplies worldwide so that they are distributed safely and on time.

“Parexel continues to build a global network of storage and distribution facilities with harmonised configurations that provide a consistent and reliable flow of materials needed in the clinical trial process,” says Kurt Norris, corporate vice president, clinical logistics services.

“This reflects our commitment to provide leading-edge management of clinical trial materials to clients across the globe,” he concludes.

Parexel has been active recently: last month it launched a new service, called Parexel Regulatory Outsourcing Services, for life sciences companies looking for post-approval regulatory activities.

And last year the group set up a new unit – dubbed Parexel Functional Services – for customers interested in outsourcing particular functions rather than a full clinical development programme, offering clinical operations, data management, biostatistics and medical writing services.
