Novartis set to offer 14 weeks paternity leave

Novartis is planning to offer employees 14 weeks of parental leave, a move which would make the firm one of the most generous in Switzerland.
While the Swiss pharma giant currently offers employees just six days paternity leave, the company is set to provide young fathers three and a half months during which they can care for their new-born child.
The policy shift, which would be implemented as a global policy, would be effective as of the 1 July.
The move comes after Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan set out to ‘unboss’ the Swiss firm in calling for a change in the company culture which would make it more friendly to millennials.
The move would make Novartis a more generous employer than both Google who offer 60 days paternity leave, and Johnson & Johnson who offer 40 days. Swiss laws currently only provide one day of paternity leave.
Adrian Wüthrich, the president of Swiss Union Travail.Suisse, commented: “Companies would have six to nine months to plan for this leave, and it would be spread out over several months,”
“In addition, because of Switzerland’s military service, companies are used to be people being away for certain periods for training.”
