Mölnlycke Health Care, a medtech company specialising in wound care and surgical solutions, has donated a risk prediction patent to The Patent Bay, a digital platform launched by SKF.

The Patent Bay allows organisations to share patents related to sustainable development free of charge. According to its founders, the platform seeks to accelerate innovation, foster collaboration and support sustainability by making technologies freely accessible without complex licensing or governance structures.

“The Patent Bay was founded to accelerate progress through open knowledge and shared innovation. Mölnlycke Health Care’s decision to share smarter patient risk scoring highlights the power of collaboration – enabling better care and advancing healthcare for all. It’s a clear reminder that sharing drives meaningful progress for people, society and the planet,” says Annika Ölme, CTO and Senior Vice President, Technology Development at SKF.

Mölnlycke will contribute a patent family relating to a method for determining a patient’s risk score, allowing caregivers to predict risks and tailor treatments more effectively. The method compares a patient’s health profile to large-scale models, helping to improve treatment accuracy, reduce unnecessary interventions, and lower healthcare costs.

Zlatko Rihter, CEO of Mölnlycke Health Care, said: “Our purpose is to revolutionise care for people and planet. Supporting The Patent Bay is a powerful way to help turn that purpose into action.”
