A global survey by Johnson & Johnson MedTech has revealed that a majority of Europeans are willing to share their health data in exchange for more personalised care – signalling growing public trust in the role of technology in healthcare.

Conducted between August and September 2024, the survey gathered responses from both the general public and healthcare professionals (HCPs) in 11 countries, including the UK, France, Germany and Italy.

73% of Europeans said they support data-sharing to enable tailored treatment plans, while 76% would feel excited about a future where technology improves medical training. 65% also expressed optimism about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare.

Among HCPs, confidence was even stronger. 89% agreed that data and technology will be essential for personalised treatment, and 87% backed its use in surgical and medical training.

“As patients and HCPs express a clear appetite for data-driven care, we have a collective responsibility to unlock the potential of technology safely and meaningfully,” said Julia Fishman, head of digital solutions EMEA at Johnson & Johnson MedTech.

The findings come as Europe prepares for the EU Data Act, which aims to support digital health transformation. Johnson & Johnson MedTech continues to invest in technologies – from AI-driven planning tools to connected surgical solutions – designed to improve outcomes across the patient journey.
