Johnson & Johnson has announced a $2bn investment in a new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, US, expanding its US production capacity.
The company will build a 160,000-square-foot site at Fujifilm’s biopharmaceutical campus. This will create around 120 new jobs over the next decade. The investment forms part of Johnson & Johnson’s broader strategy to manufacture the majority of its advanced medicines in the US.
Joaquin Duato, the company’s chair and chief executive, said: “Johnson & Johnson has more manufacturing facilities in the US than in any other country, and we continue to strengthen our presence here.”
The Holly Springs facility is one of several projects underway. In March, the company announced plans to invest $55bn over four years into US manufacturing, research and technology. Construction is also ongoing at another North Carolina site in Wilson, which is expected to employ over 500 people once operational and generate around 5000 construction jobs during development.
Expanding its US infrastructure intends to support the development and production of treatments in oncology, neuroscience, immunology, cardiovascular disease and robotic surgery.
Johnson & Johnson also plans to outline additional advanced manufacturing facilities and expansions at existing sites in the next few months.
