iZafe Group have signed a distribution agreement with Skand for the launch of Dosell, a medication-dispensing robot, in Iceland.

Dosell is an advanced robot that ensures correct and timely reception of medication by automatically dispensing tablets into individual dose packets at the required times. It can also provide medication reminders and alert healthcare professionals to missed doses.

There is a high degree of digitisation in Iceland, along with a strong focus on patient safety and efficiency. Around 8,700 people receive their medications in pouch packaging, equating to over 13% of the country’s elderly population, according to a recent analysis.

Bergur Bergsson, CEO of Skand, said that Dosell “represents the future of medication management”.

The agreement brings Dosell to a new European market with an established need for medication management solutions. The partnership between iZafe and Skand marks a milestone in iZafe’s Nordic expansion, and allows Skand – an established player in Iceland’s medical technology and health sectors – to begin distribution of an innovative technology.

Anders Segerström, CEO of iZafe Group, said: “Iceland is a market with a high level of innovation and a clear focus on patient safety. With Skand’s local presence and experience, we see strong potential to establish Dosell as a leading solution both in the home and within the healthcare sector.”

Dosell is currently being launched in municipal and healthcare settings across Europe, but it can also be used by private consumers.

The Icelandic launch of Dosell will begin with healthcare and home care collaborations, carefully tracking the quality and efficiency of the robot’s integration into these settings. The launch aims to improve medication adherence, increase safety and reduce the workload of care staff.
