This year’s Interphex exhibition in New York featured the usual crop of new product launches from processing and packaging equipment suppliers. Here are some of the highlights:
Pall Corp introduced a range of new products for bioprocessing applications at Interphex, including 3D mixers and 2D pillow-type biocontainers under the Allegro single-use equipment brand. Also revealed for the first time was Pall’s Kleenpak sterile disconnector device for maintaining sterile integrity in any sterile process fluid path before and after tube separation, as well as a validation service for Allegro installations.
PTI Inspection Systems and Nikka Densok USA launched the HVLD Micro Leak Detection System for micro leak detection in liquid-filled products such as vials, ampoules, containers, syringes and pouches. The benchtop unit uses a technology known as high-voltage leak detection (HVLD) and is designed to inspect individual samples for micro leaks and sealing defects in the laboratory and R&D setting.
ATMI LifeSciences‘ range of disposable bioprocess vessels will now be offered as standard with helium-integrity testing to confirm product integrity. HIT detects leaks from holes as small as 10 microns, and ATMI claims to be the only bioprocess vessel manufacturer to provide this level of quality control testing, which is important as leaky vessels can compromise product quality. “While tests of this type have been attempted before, no company has ever fully qualified and comprehensively deployed it”, said the company.
Konica Minolta Sensing launched the CM-5 spectrophotometer, a new colour measurement device that can be operated without an attached PC and displays a wide range of information including numeric data, spectral graphs and colorimetric plots, on its integral colour screen. The unit can be used to provide measurements on solid objects, including pills, granules and pastes, as well as liquids, films and plates.
Bio-Rad Laboratories launched an automated Chromatography Station at Interphex which incorporates chromatography systems, columns and packing accessories within a single unit, saving space in the cleanroom space as well as processing time. The company also launched the InPlace Control Console, to help automate chromatography processes for users of Bio-Rad’s existing standalone process chromatography equipment.
MG America introduced the LABBY, a fully-automatic, compact capsule filler can operate in either continuous or intermittent mode. The LABBY can fill up to 3,500 capsules per hour and is designed to handle all kinds of powder. It offers a highly-accurate micro-weighing control system, according to the company, which says its small footprint makes it ideal for R&D laboratories, clinical trials, small batch outputs and bespoke production runs.
Global Vision Inc introduced BarProof, a new software package for barcode verification and grading on press sheets, at the exhibition. The company also unveiled new versions of its Docu-Proof text verification tool and ScanTVS for checking printed components. The latter ow includes an optional module – BrailleProof – for braille inspection.
