A further six senior officials from the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) have been fired in relation to the Changsheng Biotechnology vaccine scandal.
In a post on the State Administration for Market Regulation website it was noted that senior official Ding Jinhua who headed two departments at the CFDA was among those dismissed.
The dismissals come after outrage erupted in reaction to the revelation that the Changchun city-based vaccine maker Changsheng Biotechnology had forged production records for a rabies vaccine sold in the province of Shandong.
While there are no known reports of people being harmed by the ineffective vaccines as of yet, the government in Beijing have held more than 40 government officials responsible including seven at the provincial level.
In a separate report, Chinese media outlet Xinhua announced that the central province of Hubei, with a population of more than 58 million, removed six government officials from their posts in relation to a separate vaccine scandal involving the company Wuhan Institute of Biological Products.
The company announced that they had dismissed their deputy general manager in charge of production and warned or fired eight other employees.
