Esaote, an Italian medical imaging specialist, has introduced I-Genius, a new open magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system designed for use in glioma surgery.
Gliomas are among the most common primary malignant brain tumours, accounting for approximately 81% of malignant intracranial tumours. Surgical resection remains a key component of treatment – however, the risk of tumour recurrence can remain high if residual disease is left undetected.
According to Esaote, I-Genius was developed specifically for neurosurgical applications through close consultation with neurosurgeons. The company reported that the system offers potential benefits for both clinicians and patients by reducing procedural complexity and duration, as well as lowering the likelihood of a second surgery.
Franco Fontana, CEO, Esaote said: “[The system] is the result of a strategy built on technological innovation, applied research and close collaboration with the clinical community. With this system, we are entering the intraoperative MRI field with a solution that is both accessible and sustainable – bringing great value to daily neurosurgical practice and contributing to improve the quality of life of patients.”
