Star, a specialist contract sales organisation and healthcare recruiter, has won the backing of Dragon's Den investor James Caan.

The celebrity entrepreneur is now a shareholder and investor in the company and a non-executive director on its board.

Star co-founder Lucy O'Neill said: "[Caan's] unconventional thinking and approach of 'watch the masses and do the opposite' will help Star do things differently, setting totally new standards as the innovative and specialist CSO."

Caan said O'Neill and Star co-founder Tim Webster had impressed him as much as the company they have built.

He said he also liked the fact the agency specialises in healthcare, which he said is one of his key areas for investment.

Caan said: "Lucy and Tim epitomise everything that I look for when investing in people and their businesses. They are extremely focussed people and are constantly looking to the future to anticipate market changes."

He added: "I look forward to helping Star continue as a leading permanent recruiter whilst also accelerating the growth and scalability of their specialist CSO offering."
