Cloud computing company Exostar has become a partner of BT for Life Sciences, allowing its Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems to be paired with BT’s ‘Workbench’ research collaboration software.
Workbench is designed primarily for companies collaborating on research with several other organisations and institutions simultaneously, and allows pharma workers to manage multiple research projects and applications on a single virtual desktop.
Exostar’s IAM, meanwhile, includes a secure single sign-on system allowing access to the large ‘Life Sciences Identity Hub’ cloud network – which has over 12,000 users, 550 groups and seven federated organisations in its community according to the company.
The two firms say that the new partnership will allow IAM to act as a secure access point for Workbench and connect BT’s software to the Identity Hub community.
“Security represents the largest obstacle to collaboration,” adds a spokesperson from Exostar. “To whom should access to applications and data be granted, and how is that access to be enforced, without harming efficiency?
“By connecting their Workbench Informatics and other life sciences solutions to Exostar’s cloud-based Life Sciences Identity Hub, BT is putting the stringent identity and access management measures in place to allow their customers to collaborate with confidence.“
Yury Rozenman, who is head of business development of Life Sciences at BT Global Services, says: “BT and Exostar have become the ‘go-to’ choice for collaboration communities in Life Sciences. By connecting Workbench to the Identity Hub, companies can leverage access to a robust, global collaboration environment without compromising security.”
Identity Hub has also recently been selected as the identity and access management platform by a consortium of BioPharma industry leaders.
Workbench is one of several cloud-based life sciences services from BT, which also include R&D platforms in partnership with Aspera as well as Compute Conform, a platform designed to help pharma companies comply with regulations during development of their products.
