AZ adds new heart warning to Seroquel

AstraZeneca has added a new heart warning to the packaging on its antipsychotic drug Seroquel at the behest of the FDA.
The new text says doctors should be cautious about using it with a dozen other drugs, including Pfizer’s antispychotic Geodon (ziprasidone) and methadone.
FDA spokeswoman Sandy Walsh told The New York Times the move was only a precaution, and doctors should considered it a complete ban on prescribing Seroquel with the other drugs.
The regulator moved after receiving new information about arrhythmia side effects in 17 people who took a greater than recommended dose of Seroquel.
