Wave Healthcare Communications – Four predictions for med ed in 2016

These are some of the trends Wave foresees in the forthcoming year:

Integration

We predict there will be a greater focus on getting the simple things right. There will be a trend towards concentrating on fewer programmes but making them work harder – develop once and use often to create an enduring legacy.

Big data

We are not far off from everyday patient data feeding into the healthcare system – see Fitbit for a vision of the future. More immediately, we will be challenged to optimise real world data alongside traditional RCTs to form a compelling evidence portfolio.

Old channels revisited

The way the field force works is changing dramatically. They will become an increasingly important channel for delivering peer-to-peer endorsement; for example, using KOL videos on their iPads.

Outcomes

Return on investment will move from the final line on a pitch slide to focusing on modifying behaviour in a rapidly changing environment. Med ed programmes will need to define these behaviour changes and measure them. The onus will be on all of us to choose what and how we measure.
