Precious Cells Group, a UK-based provider of stem cell technologies including Biobanking services, has appointed Dr Salmaan Dalvi as its new head of implementation and governance.

In his new role, Dr Dalvi will be responsible for working with NHS hospitals to establish and develop Precious Cells BioBank’s cord blood collection centres, and work out of Precious Cells Miracle: Community Cord Blood Registry, the company’s public cord blood banking division.

The cord blood collection centres are being setup across the UK to support the government’s target of collecting and storing 50,000 cord blood samples.

Dr Dalvi is a leading figure in the UK cord blood field, and joins Precious Cells BioBank from NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT).

During his tenure he was responsible for managing collections at all hospitals under the NHSBT Authority, and, most recently, establishing the UK’s Cord Bank Facility at University College Hospital London.

Dr Dalvi’s career also spans more than 30 years in healthcare and pharmaceutical R&D.

He says: “Precious Cells Group is at the forefront of the industry with its pioneering technology and excellence in stem cell collection and storage facilities.

“It is a hugely exciting time to be joining the group. As developments in stem cell research continue, and the number of diseases and illnesses that can be treated with cord blood increases, the security and quality of care around the collection and storage of these cells has never been so critical. I look forward to working with the Precious Cells Group to grow awareness and understanding of the many benefits of cord blood therapy.”
