Novella appoints MD for Europe and Asia

Contract research organisation (CRO) Novella Clinical has appointed Dr Chris Smyth as the managing director of its European and Asian operations.

He succeeds Elizabeth Edwards, who will now serve as executive VP of global operations, overseeing Novella’s clinical monitoring division.

Based in Novella’s European headquarters in Stevenage, UK, Smyth will be providing strategic leadership, organisation and training resources for its regional teams. Smyth also will lead oncology delivery operations in all markets outside the US.

Smyth joins the Quintiles-owned company with more than 20 years’ research and development experience in the pharma industry. Prior to Novella he served as senior VP of clinical development in the oncology division of INC Research.

Smyth has led CROs and biopharma companies in both Europe and the US, dealing exclusively in haematology and oncology drug development since 2003. 

Novella clinical chief operating officer Rob King, said: “We are fortunate to have someone as experienced as Dr Smyth guiding our team and business objectives in Europe and Asia.”
